Brand Identity for a Master Carpenter in Dresden
2026
Johannes Niekrens is a master carpenter based in Dresden, Germany, specializing in custom furniture, exhibition construction and the restoration of wooden objects. The goal of the project was to create a complete visual identity and digital presence that reflects his craftsmanship while giving the business a contemporary and distinctive character.
I developed the branding from the ground up, including the logo, color palette, typography and visual system. The custom symbol is inspired by the precision and structure of traditional craftsmanship and works both as a standalone mark and together with the wordmark. Warm brown and burgundy tones reference wood and natural materials, while soft lavender and cream create a modern contrast and give the identity a recognizable visual character.
The branding was extended across different applications, including stationery, invoices, packaging tape, signage and other physical touchpoints. This creates a consistent identity that works from the workshop environment to communication with clients.
I also photographed Johannes and his work in the workshop and edited the images specifically for the visual identity and website. The photography focuses on the working process, materials and craftsmanship, giving the brand a personal and authentic dimension.
The website was designed and developed as a responsive digital portfolio that presents his services, projects and approach in a clear and structured way. The visual language of the branding continues throughout the desktop, tablet and mobile layouts, combining large typography, workshop photography and a restrained interface. The result is a cohesive identity that connects traditional craftsmanship with contemporary graphic and web design.
